Did Amitabh make the problem complicated?

In a poll put up in Amitabh Bachchan blog about his decision to reject the honorary doctorate offered to him by Queensland University of Technology, about 65% supported n rest were unhappy with the decision. One can have a personal opinion but should be more than responsible & logical enough in expressing it especially when its a sensitive issue. When you are a public figure it represents not only your opinion but also of community's. Unfortunatley, here the community is India.

In his response to racial attacks in Australia, Amitabh mentioned in his blog " I mean no disrespect to the Institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen. "

Do we have any base on commenting these attacks as "Racist". Obsolutely answer is No. Neither all aurtralians nor Australian govt has attacked Students of our country. The attack was by few stupid louts who were happened to be australians. Many, like John McCarthy said these attacks as Criminal activity and no official either from India or from Australia declared them as racial attacks. At this juncture, even govt is negotiating with Oz govt to prevent these attacks. So, how logical is it to reject the honory degree in this tensed environment by assuming the attacks are spurred by racism. Its personal decision to reject the degree but it also strengthen the feeling of racism which is not there. Just only 4 to 5 members out of 90,000 members were attacked. The truth is that some will inevitably get caught in crime. Can any govt avoid such a minor accidents? Dont we have any such attacks in our own country. If there were attacks on students in past, the number of Indian students in Austraila wouldn't have raised to 90,000 who contribute 25% of totla foreign students.

Its really bad that Amitabhji generalises the attacks are done by australia. It would be good to take back the decision and convey a messege to world that the attacks weren't on racism factor and chill the tensed situation. Thus, Complications in the issue will be brought down. But i really apprciate your feeling about these attacks and your sympathy towards attacked indian students but all these feelings u got were just by watching Electronic media. Your decision might have been different if u looked at official News released by both governments.

Feeling as a professional

Approaching towards of 1st of June, anxiety is piling up. This is the date many on the earth don't bother about. But, for many in United States, and for few in India, its a day of death. And I am the one in those few from India.

On 1st of June, Obama administration decides if GM has to go for bankruptcy. To stop economy falling down further, downfall of GM shouldn't be seen. Still the words of HR from GM-India are reverbarating in my ears. When i was talking to him, in our discussion, he suggested us to check for alternatives. Since then, even I don't like by heart, I never stopped searching for another one.

10:30AM, today, I was sitting right before my com in the lab surfing hot jobs available across India with help of naukari & freshersworld. That time, every thing in my mind was -still, do we have jobs in india. Suddenly, my cell was dancing with vibrations. Picked it up. Unfortunately, its not regular call from customer care. Its from HR manager of a company called "Teledata technologies", one more softy. I wonder why these software people bother about stuedents of core technical backgruond. I was reluctant to contiue that call. I dint remember anything except she saying that was they needed people from mechancial background. I started listening. I was asked to attend an interview at 4'o clock today. I would have stunned about the interview. But the experience I have about attending & being part in organising 4 to 6 interview panels per day made no surprise about that suddent interview. I attended. My expectations about the job profile was so high because designation is "Subject Matter Experts"

Finally, I sat before interview panel consisting 2 members. One is P.M. and another one was a person with good technical background. After all normal questions, i was asked two tech questions. I remember first one was: "What is low bypass turboprop?" What i understood with that question was I was screwed up.Still, I remeber how B.Techs from IIT mess the situation when they don't the answer. I did the same. Their startegy is "Confuse, and let others confuse." And it bacame mine. The second i dint even understand what that question was. I said directly I am sorry. Interview was done!!!!!! I donno what did they expect from me.

The final question was what is my expectation about the package. I donno what to say. I want to have some time. So, i said i wasn't clear with the job profile. So, i can't expect. They were explaining. I was thinking of the digits. finally i said i would be happy if its around 25K. I was trying sort out their feeling. But i couldn't. They were upto their standards of HRD.

Finally i was out of it. HR called me up after 30 mins. she talked to me as though i was selected. I dint understand why did they select me.Some bargaining was going on about salary. She said she will get back to me after day or two. Call was down.

Now, i am thinking - did I mention less salary. I wish i would raise it up to 30K atleast. If its less i'll be out of it. When i was negotiating, i dint feel myself like me. What, I couldn't even bargain well about vegetables in Raitu bazar. I remember my mother was scolding at my poor skils of bargaining. So something i did today to sell myself. I could have raised my cost :) . Its what costs me for the next 6 months before get into GM. When i was bargaining, really, i was feeling as i bacame a proffessional. One thing i learnt was not to hesitate at mentioning salary expectations.
